Description of Work The Charge/Lead Nurse position is located at Bertie Correctional Institution in Windsor, NC, a medium/close custody facility which houses 845 male offenders.

Responsibilities

Provide professional nursing care/treatment in accordance with medical protocols in a supervisory capacity.

Manage and supervise daily nursing care on an assigned shift or area, or in a preceptor role, coordinating all licensed and non-licensed staff.

Conduct needs assessments, develop, implement, and evaluate treatment plans, and provide patient care and education to offenders.

Perform sick call assessments, medication administration, phlebotomy sticks, transcribe MD/PA orders, and maintain thorough medical documentation.

Monitor and treat communicable diseases and respond to emergencies.

Work required shift times may include weekends and holidays with limited clinical supervision.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities / Management Preferences

RN/Charge Nurse – Eligible for a $7,500 sign‑on bonus (To be eligible, the candidate must not have worked as a probationary, permanent, or time‑limited employee in the last 12 months as an employee subject to the State Human Resources Act.)

Salary Range: $59,732 – $98,557

Preferred Skills: Demonstrated knowledge of basic nursing principles and techniques, physical assessments, clinical judgments, treatment planning, and evaluation.

Minimum Education and Experience Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of North Carolina and one year of nursing experience.
