Job Summary:
The College of Science and Mathematics (CSM), Department of Biological Sciences at Augusta University invites applications for a faculty member at the rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor. CSM seeks an outstanding individual with innovative and integrative research programs that will extend and complement existing faculty strengths. We are looking for someone who takes a molecular approach to physiology, organismal biology, and/or ecology. The successful candidate is expected to develop a vibrant, independent, and competitive research program to successfully secure external funding. The candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate courses in their area of expertise, mentor graduate (MS, PhD) and undergraduate students, and serve on department, program, and campus committees.
This position is considered tenure‑track.
Responsibilities:
Research:
45% – Conduct research and scholarly activities, involving undergraduate and graduate science majors.
Teaching:
45% – Teach and coordinate biology courses as assigned.
Service:
10% – Perform service on committees and other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
Ph.D. in biological sciences or related field.
At least 1‑year postdoctoral experience.
Strong publication record and commitment to teaching or mentorship.
Assistant Professor – Early‑career faculty member. Associate Professor – Mid‑career faculty member with at least five years at the rank of Assistant Professor or comparable training.
Professor – Senior‑career faculty member with at least five years at the rank of Associate Professor or comparable training; must hold a terminal degree.
Consistent with SACSCOC accreditation requirements.
Evidence of ability as a teacher and scholar.
Successful experience (waived for those just entering the profession who meet other requirements).
Desirable personal qualities judged by interview, biographic data, and recommendations.
Preferred Qualifications:
External funding awards.
Teaching experience at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
Shift / Salary / Benefits:
Academic year based (August – May). Full‑time (1.0 FTE). Salary commensurate with education, experience and achievements; subject to availability of funds. Comprehensive benefits include medical, dental, vision, sick leave, retirement plans, tuition waiver, wellness options and more.
Tuition Assistance Program available to full‑time employees employed for more than six months.
