Information Technology Specialist 4, SG-25 Under the general direction of a Project Assistant, within the Dedicated Support, Public Safety Section/Bureau, the Information Technology Specialist 4, SG-25, will perform the following duties.

Core Data Management & Governance

Assist in the day‑to‑day collection, validation, and entry of data from various sources into centralized databases.

Perform routine data cleaning and standardization tasks to ensure accuracy, completeness, and consistency.

Help enforce data governance policies and naming conventions under the guidance of senior staff.

Conduct basic data quality checks, identify anomalies or duplicates, and report issues to senior team members.

Assist in documenting data sources, definitions, and lineage (data dictionaries, metadata).

Database & System Support

Execute basic queries (using SQL or similar) to extract data for reports or analysis as requested.

Assist in the monitoring of data pipelines and ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes, flagging any failures.

Perform regular database backups and support restoration tests.

Help with user access management, granting basic permissions following approved requests.

Support the migration and archiving of data according to retention policies.

Reporting & Collaboration

Generate and distribute standard reports and dashboards using tools like Excel, Power BI, or Tableau.

Support other teams (e.g., Analytics, Marketing, Operations) by providing clean, reliable datasets for their projects.

Participate in meetings to understand data needs and communicate updates on data status.

Assist in preparing data for internal and external audits.

General & Professional Development

Maintain detailed logs of data management activities and issues.

Stay updated on company data policies, compliance requirements, and best practices.

Proactively learn new data management tools and technologies as required.

Complete all assigned tasks with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.

Qualifications Open to NYS employees with one year of permanent competitive service as an Information Technology Specialist 4, SG‑25 or in a position at the SG‑23 level or higher deemed administrative under Section 52.6 of Civil Service Law or in a title eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of Civil Service Law. The transfer cannot be a second consecutive transfer resulting in advancement of more than two salary grades.

Additional Comments ITS will not offer permanent employment to any candidate unless the candidate provides documentation that they are authorized to accept work in the United States on a permanent basis. It is the policy of ITS not to hire F1 or H1 visa holders for permanent employment or to sponsor non‑immigrant aliens for temporary work authorization visas or for permanent residence. Some positions may require fingerprinting. Some positions may require up to 25 % travel and/or lifting up to 50 lb. Some positions are pending Civil Service approval. Details of position(s) will be described further if you are selected for an interview. If eligible, positions located in New York City will receive an additional $3,400 downstate adjustment location pay with regular annual salary. Positions located in the Mid‑Hudson will receive an additional $1,650 adjustment location pay.
