This is a sworn career service position located within the Bureau of Law Enforcement. To be considered, you must have passed the Florida Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission law‑enforcement examination or an equivalency by the application deadline.

Our Organization and Mission The Florida Division of Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco licenses, audits, and enforces laws governing alcoholic beverage and tobacco products. The division’s bureaus—Licensing, Auditing, and Enforcement—have about 325 personnel across the state.

The Work You Will Do This role requires advanced investigative and critical thinking skills, shifting seamlessly between regulatory investigations and law‑enforcement duties. Investigators will work some nights and weekends as necessary.

Your Specific Responsibilities

Plan, conduct, and complete criminal, administrative, and civil investigations.

Conduct age‑compliance surveys and coordinate with public and other agencies to reduce non‑compliance.

Investigate issues such as counterfeit cigarette tax stamps, unlawful shipments, non‑taxed alcoholic beverages, fraudulent applications, and ties between manufacturers and retailers.

Prepare accurate reports and submit documentation on time.

Conduct interviews, testify in proceedings, and collaborate with other agencies.

Provide training on state laws and regulations; participate in community prevention and education events.

Enforce final orders, make arrests, serve warrants, recruit informants, and account for investigative expenses.

Inspect licensed businesses to promote compliance.

Maintain equipment and comply with training requirements.

Meet and stay current with division policies, legal opinions, statutes, and court decisions.

Perform other related duties and respond to state emergency operations as needed.

Maintain proper physical conditioning.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of the criminal justice system, crime prevention procedures, arrest procedures, and use of restraining devices and firearms.

Ability to work in dangerous and stressful situations, analyze and interpret data, gather and preserve evidence, and determine priorities.

Strong interviewing and interpersonal skills.

Must be able to lift and maneuver at least 50 pounds.

Must hold an active Florida Law Enforcement Officer certification or have passed the CJSTC examination.

Must have minimum 2 years of sworn law enforcement experience.

Must possess a valid Florida driver’s license.

Must reside within 70 miles of the Tampa District Office at hire.

Must pass a law enforcement level 2 background screening.

Must complete an internal training program.

Must have a safe driving history.

Preferred

Proficiency in technology and writing.

Bilingual abilities as needed.

More than 3 years of white‑collar or financial fraud investigative experience.

Experience or degree in accounting, auditing, or public management.

Experience in beverage regulation.
