The Florida Division of Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco licenses, audits, and enforces laws governing alcoholic beverage and tobacco products. This sworn career service officer will conduct complex criminal, administrative, and civil investigations related to the division’s jurisdiction.

Responsibilities

Plan, conduct, and complete criminal, administrative, and civil investigations.

Conduct minimum age compliance surveys, develop public and interagency work plans, and adjust activities as needed.

Investigate stolen or counterfeit cigarette tax stamps, unlawful shipments of alcoholic beverages or tobacco products, non‑tax paid items, fraudulent applications, and unlawful ties between manufacturers or distributors and retailers.

Prepare well‑composed, accurate reports and submit documentation within specified timeframes.

Conduct interviews, testify in official legal proceedings, and participate in cooperative investigations with other agencies.

Provide training regarding state laws and rules and participate in community prevention and education events.

Enforce final orders, settlement agreements, and court orders; make arrests, serve warrants, recruit and document informants, and account for investigative expenses.

Plan, conduct, and complete inspections of licensed businesses to promote compliance.

Participate in required training and properly maintain issued equipment.

Maintain familiarity with written policies, procedures, legal opinions, statutory changes, and court decisions.

Perform additional duties and participate in state declared emergency operations, which may require extended travel.

Maintain proper physical conditioning to perform the duties of a sworn law enforcement officer.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of the criminal justice system, crime prevention and control procedures, arrest procedures, and use of restraining devices and firearms.

Ability to work in dangerous and stressful situations; to understand and apply laws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.

Ability to deal with individuals and critical situations effectively; to gather and preserve evidence; to determine work priorities and ensure completion of assignments.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships; to analyze and interpret law enforcement data; to effectively interview suspects, complainants, and witnesses.

Physical ability to lift and maneuver a minimum of 50 pounds.

Minimum Requirements

Current active Florida Law Enforcement Officer certification or a passed Florida CJSTC law enforcement examination.

Minimum of 2 years sworn law enforcement experience.

Valid State of Florida Driver’s License at time of appointment.

Residence within 70 miles of the Orlando District Office at time of hire.

Pass a law enforcement level 2 background screening.

Successfully complete an internal training program.

Safe driving history.

Preferred Qualifications

Proficiency in technology and writing skills.

Bilingual ability as needed.

More than three years of white‑collar or financial fraud investigative experience.

Experience in accounting or auditing, or a degree in accounting or public management.

Experience in beverage regulation.
