Job Summary Primary responsibility is to ensure that all persons have a safe and enjoyable experience while visiting or using the Westmont Park District facilities.
Under the supervision of the Recreation Coordinator, the summer camp counselor is responsible for implementing and running day to day activities at the Westmont Summer Camp, located at Veterans Memorial Park. Counselors will be responsible for supervising groups of children grades K-8. Counselors will take attendance, monitor and run activities, chaperone field trips, as well as communicate with parents.
Hours :
Monday-Friday 8:00am – 4:15pm –
The number of counselors needed per week is dictated by program enrollment. Staffing needs will be evaluated on an ongoing basis, and hours worked cannot be guaranteed. Rate:
$14-$16 (16yrs+, 18yrs+ preferred) Status:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Serve as role models for participants.
Assist in creating or planning games based on theme ideas for the week.
Assist with weekly activity plans
Chaperone on field trips
React to incidents calmly with the appropriate form of action when required.
Properly enforce code of conduct and disciplinary procedures
Assist in preparing assigned areas for the children, as well as, clean it up and put all materials away before leaving.
Provide conflict resolution for patrons
ALWAYS BE ACTIVE.
Keep attendance records.
Maintain daily communication with the Recreation Coordinator
Perform any additional related tasks as required.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE:
Basic understanding of how recreation programs work. Additional knowledge in safety, camps, and children’s activities is a plus. Must have good written and verbal communication skills.
QUALIFICATIONS:
16 years old is preferred. Any prior experience with kids or summer camps is a plus.
SAFETY RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Obey the practical safety rules, regulations and procedures established by the safety program that is pertinent to the activities conducted by the department.
2. Daily supervision of all staff safety and training programs to ensure compliance by all employees.
3. Promptly report to Safety Coordinator or member of Safety Committee all unsafe actions, practices or conditions observed.
EVALUATION:
Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Personnel and Employment Policy.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
In an 8-hour workday employee may engage in activities that may include, but are not limited to: standing, sitting, walking, driving, bending, twisting and lifting.
