California Highway Patrol JC-503990 Automotive Technician III Salary: $5,032.00 - $6,250.00 per Month (New to State candidates will be hired into the minimum salary of the classification or the minimum of the alternate range when applicable.) Final Filing Date: 1/19/2026 Location: Yolo County, West Sacramento, CA 95605 Work Type: Permanent, Full Time (In Office)
Responsibilities Supervise unit activities associated with stripping out-of-service vehicles/motorcycles, preparing vehicles/motorcycles for inspection, repairs, repainting, and ensuring compliance with applicable vehicle and health and safety codes. Coordinate repairs and maintenance of building and grounds with facilities and vendors. Instruct personnel in the application of safety practices and procedures for disposal of hazardous material and other facility safety requirements. Direct application of hazardous waste controls, collection, disposal, and records. Plan, organize, and supervise the daily functions of staff. Evaluate, prioritize, and delegate work commitments or demands, approve requests for time off, and adjust work schedules and assignments of personnel. Perform annual performance appraisals; interpret, investigate, and settle first‑step grievances; and perform progressive discipline. Review and approve attendance reports. Participate in the selection and hiring process of personnel including conducting interviews and completing required paperwork. Provide employee training to ensure maximum efficiency of unit operations.

Working Conditions The Automotive Technician III will work both indoors and outdoors. Incumbents are required to crawl underneath a vehicle/down under the dashboard/into the trunk; lift and carry tires up to 60 pounds in weight; and work in varying, and sometimes extreme, temperatures.

Special Requirements
Valid California Driver's License (CDL) required. Provide CDL number, class, expiration date, and any endorsements and/or restrictions on application.
Drug screening must be passed prior to being hired.
Background investigation must be cleared prior to being hired.
Medical clearance required prior to hiring.
Desirable Qualifications Must be able to lift 60 pounds in weight, work in varying and sometimes extreme temperatures, have strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills, and demonstrate good attendance and punctuality.
