Purpose of the Position This position will support the Ferguson Center by being responsible for the smooth operations of the lobby and audience seating area during events held at the facility. House Managers are to provide and enforce excellent customer service by creating a welcoming environment, overseeing all patron and staff safety and well-being from arrival through departure post‑event. Additionally, this position will assist the Patron Services Manager in the supervision of student and volunteer staff and also support the Ticket Office as needed.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Related to Position
Excellent oral, written and organizational skills
Good interpersonal skills; ability to manage and work effectively with people
Ability to coordinate multiple tasks simultaneously, solve problems and make decisions
Ability to operate calmly under pressure and be adaptable to any situation
Ability to work potentially long, irregular hours including weekends for an extended period as dictated by the event schedule
Education and Experience Education:
High school graduate or equivalent education/experience that equates to a high school diploma
Experience:
Experience in a customer service environment; experience with word processing and spreadsheet software; experience in event management, front of house and/or ticket office operations; experience working at a performing arts center; experience supervising others.
Additional Consideration(s) Education:
College coursework in the fine and performing arts
Salary Information Starting at $15.71/hour, commensurate with Education and Experience.
Conditions of Employment
This is an hourly position and does NOT entitle the incumbent to Commonwealth of Virginia benefits and is limited to 1500 hours in a 365‑day period
Selected candidate will be required to attend a 2‑Day New Employee Orientation Program
Ability to work potentially long, irregular hours including weekends for an extended period as dictated by the event schedule

This position requires a person to be on their feet for long periods of time during events. This includes standing, excessive walking, navigating stairs and inclines. Weight range of these items are within 20‑50 lbs.
