Job Description OVERVIEW:

BASIC FUNCTION:

The Food Services Planning Supervisor will supervise the menu planning, production systems, marketing, and related activities of the Food and Nutrition Services Department. Oversee the development and implementation of menus, recipes, and marketing initiatives that maintain federal, state, and local nutritional compliance and support student participation; select, train, and evaluate the performance of assigned staff.

Full-time, 12 months, 260 days per year

The position is paid on the AASD Classified Supervisors Salary Schedule, Supervisor Schedule I, Salary Plan, Grade 047.

Organize and supervise varied activities related to menu planning, recipe development, product testing, food production, nutritional analysis, responsible food practices, marketing initiatives, and compliance with food contracts and purchasing requirements, including commodity food allocations.

Maintain nutritional integrity of program offerings; ensure regulatory compliance while incorporating student preferences to maximize participation and satisfaction.

Provide oversight and guidance to ensure marketing initiatives align with departmental goals and regulatory standards; collaborate to integrate marketing initiatives with menu planning, product development, and nutrition education activities.

Supervise food ordering from supply center and cold storage facilities and maintain related records.

E

Promote participation and maintain food cost control.

E

Standardize product packaging for consistency and food safety to meet program needs.

E

Collaborate with department leadership to align menu planning, procurement, and budgetary considerations; work with appropriate departments to communicate purchase requirements and service needs.

Provide direction, advice, and materials to staff regarding the District's food management system, food production methods, inventories, marketing, and related activities.

Evaluate recipes, menus, production methods, and promotional campaigns to ensure quality, effectiveness, and satisfaction; identify areas for improvement and implement approved strategies.

Promote and oversee responsible food practices by minimizing food waste, promoting mindful consumption, facilitating the use of share tables, coordinating necessary food donations, and prioritizing local sourcing within established guidelines.

Supervise the process for maintaining product records, verifying the accuracy of all recorded product ingredients and nutritional information for regulatory adherence and internal use.

Oversee the planning, implementation, and compliance of all food-related grants.

Coordinate the development of departmental procedures in accordance with District, state, and federal rules and regulations.

Represent the department with school and civic groups.

E

Conduct special studies and surveys.

E

Prepare, analyze, and maintain a variety of narrative and statistical reports, records, presentations, and files related to assigned activities and personnel.

E

Analyze food costs, usage, and waste.

E

Organize and implement special projects.

E

Assist in planning and conducting in‑service training programs; develop training materials; and provide professional development for staff on menus, recipes, food safety, and nutrition standards.

Supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned personnel.

E

Perform related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education and Experience: A combination of training, experience, and/or education equivalent to a Bachelor's degree in food and nutrition, dietetics, or related field and four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in food service management. Prior experience in government, school district, or public agency is preferred.

Licenses and Other Requirements: Registered Dietitian (RD) or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) credential is highly desirable.

Individuals employed in this job class must be able to qualify for and maintain a Food Service Manager Training Certificate, a food handler related sanitation certificate required by San Diego ordinance and attainable through previous college course work or a specified food service sanitation training course.
