Highway Maintenance Worker II - Medium Equipment Operator (61036571)
Step into the role of Highway Maintenance Worker II – Medium Equipment Operator in the South Carolina Department of Transportation. This position involves performing skilled manual labor and operating medium equipment such as a skid steer loader, combination tractor with side-mounted mower, and tandem dump truck to repair and preserve roads and bridges in the state highway system.
Job Responsibilities • Utilize equipment, including chainsaw, pole saw, brush chipper, and weeder, for vegetation management and clearing;
• Coordinate placement of traffic control devices to establish safe maintenance work zones in accordance with SCDOT Work Zone Traffic Control guidelines;
• Pick up litter, debris, dead animals, and other road hazards;
• Assist in emergency and inclement-weather operations; be available for extended hours or 12‑hour shifts as required;
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum And Additional Requirements One (1) year of related work experience
or an approved equivalency;
A valid motor vehicle operator’s license
is required;
Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)
must be obtained within six (6) months of placement; physical demands include lifting up to 50 lbs., working in rough terrain, and potentially working outside normal hours.
