As Canonical expands into new industries, the team develops innovative open source solutions to meet diverse customer needs. We believe engineering managers should be outstanding engineers, comfortable troubleshooting and engaging in technical presales. They should contribute technically but focus more on guiding the team's direction and growth. We develop management skills and train engineers interested in soft skills for management roles. Our goal is to make open source more accessible, reliable, and secure, aiming to provide 'most software to most companies.' We select engineers globally based on brilliance and motivation. Our managers help teams achieve their potential and take pride in their accomplishments. The role of a Cloud Field Engineering Manager at Canonical

The team of cloud solutions architects works directly with customers to design private and public cloud solutions tailored to their workloads. The portfolio includes on-premise solutions like Openstack, MicroCloud, Ceph, and deployable solutions such as Kubernetes, Kubeflow, Spark, PostgreSQL, among others. Managers oversee deployment, testing, and handover of solutions, and participate in presales to provide technical advice. The manager is responsible for line management, career development, technical representation, and collaboration with other teams and customers. Active participation in presales is also expected. This role is home-based, managing a team within your time zone. Typical daily activities

Lead and develop a team of engineers in presales and professional services Resolve customer issues by promoting technologies and acting as a trusted advisor Work remotely within a major time zone Mentor, coach, and provide career feedback Track team health indicators Implement engineering processes Represent your team and products to stakeholders and customers Promote best engineering and organizational practices Manage project progress and goals Collaborate with leadership and other teams Candidate requirements

Knowledge of cloud computing and related technologies (Kubernetes, Openstack, AWS, GCP, Azure, Ceph) Practical Linux and networking skills Experience in technical presales Proactive, communicative, and team-oriented personality Excellent English communication skills Passion for developing people and leadership experience Organized with a track record of delivering quality results Strong academic background Willingness to travel up to 40% Additional desirable skills

Spanish or French language skills Python programming knowledge Experience working with external partners Stakeholder engagement experience Benefits
