The role of a Cloud Field Engineering Manager at Canonical
The team of cloud solutions architects at Canonical works directly with customers to design private and public cloud solutions tailored to their workload needs. The portfolio includes on-premise solutions like OpenStack, MicroCloud, Ceph, and deployable solutions such as Kubernetes, Kubeflow, Spark, and PostgreSQL. Managers oversee deployment, testing, and handover processes, and participate in presales to provide technical advice. The manager is responsible for line management, career guidance, talent development, technical representation, collaboration, and active participation in presales to meet quarterly goals. Location
This role is home-based, managing a team within your time zone. Daily responsibilities include:
Leading and developing a team of engineers in Presales and Professional Services Solving customer problems and acting as a trusted advisor Remote work within a single major time zone Coaching, mentoring, and providing career feedback Monitoring team health indicators Implementing disciplined engineering processes Representing your team to stakeholders, partners, and customers Promoting engineering and organizational best practices Planning and managing project progress Collaborating with leadership teams Candidate requirements:
Knowledge of cloud computing technologies (Kubernetes, OpenStack, AWS, GCP, Azure, Ceph) Practical Linux and networking skills Experience in technical presales Dynamic, proactive attitude and strong communication skills in English Passion for developing people and leadership experience Organizational skills for timely, high-quality results Strong academic background Willingness to travel up to 40% Additional desirable skills:
