This is an opportunity to lead a field engineering team, helping customers understand and implement Canonical's open source solutions across public clouds and data centers. The role involves working with a range of cloud offerings, from Ubuntu to virtualization, private cloud, Kubernetes, and advanced open source solutions like MLops platforms and data platforms.

The role of a Cloud Field Engineering Manager at Canonical The team of cloud solutions architects works directly with customers to design private and public cloud solutions tailored to their workloads. Technologies include Openstack, MicroCloud, Ceph, Kubernetes, Kubeflow, Spark, PostgreSQL, among others. Managers oversee deployment, testing, and handover, and participate in presales technical advice.
The manager is responsible for line management, career guidance, technical representation, collaboration, and active participation in presales to meet quarterly goals.
Location This role is home-based, managing a team in your time zone.
Daily responsibilities include:
Leading and developing a team of engineers in presales and professional services
Solving customer problems by promoting technologies and acting as a trusted advisor
Remote work within a single major time zone
Mentoring and providing career development feedback
Monitoring team health indicators
Implementing disciplined engineering processes
Representing your team and products to stakeholders, partners, and customers
Developing engineering and organizational practices
Planning and managing project progress
Collaborating with leadership teams
Candidate requirements:
Knowledge of cloud computing technologies like Kubernetes, Openstack, AWS, GCP, Azure, Ceph
Practical Linux and networking skills
Experience in technical presales
Dynamic personality with project engagement and people interaction skills
Excellent English communication skills
Passion for developing and growing people
Experience leading and mentoring engineers
Organizational skills to ensure timely, high-quality results
Strong academic background
Willingness to travel up to 40%
Additional desirable skills:
Spanish or French language skills
Python programming knowledge
Experience with external partnerships
Stakeholder feedback experience for engineering roadmaps
