Tyto Athene is searching for a
Senior Database Administrator
to support U.S. Southern Command on the SCITES II Contract in Doral, Florida.
The Senior Database Administratoris responsible for the design, implementation, performance tuning, and security of enterprise-grade database systems supporting USSOUTHCOM's mission-critical IT infrastructure. This role ensures database environments meet Department of Defense (DoD) standards for high availability, cybersecurity, and compliance. The Senior DBA leads database strategy, mentors junior team members, and supports cross-functional initiatives for modernization and cloud integration.
Responsibilities:
Design, install, configure, and manage enterprise database systems (e.g., Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL)
Develop and maintain data models, data dictionaries, and metadata repositories
Monitor and optimize database performance using industry best practices and diagnostic tools
Oversee data backup, recovery, high availability, and disaster recovery planning and execution
Ensure compliance with DoD cybersecurity requirements including STIGs, RMF, and audit readiness
Lead database migrations, upgrades, and patch management processes
Implement automation strategies using scripting languages
Collaborate with system, application, and cybersecurity teams to integrate database solutions
Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior and journeyman DBAs
Prepare and deliver technical documentation and reports to leadership and stakeholders
Qualifications
Required:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, IT, or Engineering
10+ years of experience in enterprise database administration
In-depth knowledge of DoD database security and auditing practices
Proficiency with replication, clustering, and disaster recovery solutions
Deep knowledge of RDBMS platforms
Expertise in scripting (PowerShell, T-SQL, PL/SQL, Bash)
Experience with STIG compliance and DoD cybersecurity controls
Desired:
Master's degree in technical discipline
Experience with Microsoft Azure SQL or hybrid on-prem/cloud solutions
Experience with data warehousing and DoD data governance
ITIL v4 Foundations
Experience with tools like SSRS, SSIS, or SQL Profiler
Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert

Secret clearance required
Certification:
DoD 8570 Baseline & CE certifications are required for all positions and may vary slightly depending on the skillset required to perform the role
CompTIA Security+ CE
Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate (DP-300)
Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert
CISSP or CASP
