Job Requirements & Qualifications
Experience:
Minimum 2 years
of recent Labor & Delivery and/or Nursery experience.
Preferred:
Charge nurse experience, teaching/community hospital exposure.
Travel Experience Required.
Certifications:
NRP
(Neonatal Resuscitation Program) – Required.
STABLE
(Preferred).
BLS/ACLS
(AHA only).
Skills & Competencies:
Proficient in
neonatal care
(≥34 weeks and 29–34 weeks).
Experience with
Apgar scoring
,
newborn resuscitation
, and
immediate postpartum care
.
IV therapy
,
blood product administration
,
NG tube management
, and
enteral feedings
.
Familiarity with
CPAP
,
oxygen delivery systems
, and
neonatal glucose monitoring
.
Comfortable with
UV line placement
for preterm infants and
blood transfusions
.
Charting System:
Not specified (EPIC/Cerner experience is a plus).
Unit & Patient Care Details
Patient Population:
Neonates
(≥34 weeks and 29–34 weeks).
Feeder-growers
,
late preterm infants
, and
term newborns requiring stabilization
.
NAS (Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome) infants requiring medication.
Daily Census:
~2 neonates.
Staffing Ratio:
1:3 (days/nights/weekends).
Special Equipment:
Giraffe/Panda warmers, breastmilk warmers, IV/enteral pumps, Pyxis.
Interdisciplinary Support:
Respiratory therapy, pharmacy, social services, rapid response teams.
Key Responsibilities
Newborn Stabilization & Resuscitation:
Attend deliveries, perform
Apgar scoring
, and provide
immediate neonatal care
.
Manage
preterm infants
(≥32 weeks) requiring
CPAP/O2 therapy
or IV support.
Clinical Procedures:
Administer
medications
,
blood products
, and
enteral feedings
.
Assist with
UV line placement
for extremely premature infants prior to transfer.
Family-Centered Care:
Educate parents on
breastfeeding
,
newborn care
, and
transitional support
.
Floating & Call Coverage:
Float to related units as needed (within scope). 24 hours of call per 6-week period
.
