This is a full-time (Technicians) emergency and non-emergency vehicle maintenance position in the City's Internal Services Department, Fleet Maintenance Division. An individual in this position will be responsible for providing comprehensive maintenance and repairs to all the municipal fleet vehicles to include fire trucks/apparatuses. EVT will be responsible for diagnosing and resolving mechanical, electrical, and electronic issues, performing preventative maintenance, and conducting inspections to ensure compliance with safety regulations. Reporting relationship: Fleet Supervisor. Examples of Work
Conduct routine maintenance and inspections on emergency vehicles to ensure their operational readiness and compliance with safety standards. Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and electronic malfunctions in emergency vehicles, including engines, transmissions, braking systems, lighting systems, sirens, and communication equipment. Perform scheduled preventative maintenance tasks, including oil changes, filter replacements, fluid checks, and lubrication to prevent breakdowns and extend vehicle lifespan on emergency vehicles and white fleet. Utilize diagnostic equipment, software, and tolls to identify and troubleshoot vehicle malfunctions and system failures. Identify, diagnose, and repair emergency vehicle components related to firefighting equipment including fire pumps, plumbing, valves, foam systems, compressed air foam systems, meters, emergency lighting, on-board charging systems, aerial components and systems, audible warning systems, and alternating and direct current systems. Repairs emergency vehicle equipment failures identified by other higher-level technicians. Installs new parts, accessories, and equipment as needed, ensuring compatibility and adherence to manufacturer specifications. Keep accurate records of all maintenance and repair activities, including work performed, parts used, and associated costs. Collaborate with other technicians, mechanics, and emergency vehicle operators to address maintenance concerns. Frequently lifting and carrying equipment/parts weighing up to 50 pounds; make elevated repairs at heights of 10'. Stay updated and current on industry trends, advancements, and regulations related to emergency vehicle technology, maintenance processes and industry standard best practices. Comply with established safety protocols and regulations while working in the shop or in the field. Troubleshoots drive train problems and makes needed repairs; operates emergency vehicles to perform test drives. Perform other related duties as assigned. Subject to 24-hour recall. High School Diploma or General Educational Development (GED) Certification, valid Texas Commercial Driver License (CDL) Class "B" and relevant professional experience required. Emergency Vehicle Technician certification (Fire Apparatus), required; if certification lapsed, renew within six months of hire. Ability to obtain ASE 2, 5, 7, and 9 within one year from start date. ASE Master Automobile Technician certification, work experience with Siddons Martin and/or Pierce preferred. Supplemental Information
