General Purpose

The Retail Associate is responsible for ensuring our Customers have a positive shopping experience. The Associate makes eye contact, smiles, and greets all Customers in a courteous and friendly manner, treats fellow Associates with respect, efficiently follows all company best practice standards, maintains a clean work area, and ensures proper merchandise presentation. The Retail Associate is expected to perform a range of functions in all areas of the Store as business needs require, and may be asked to perform additional tasks to achieve customer service and operational goals.

Essential Functions

  • Safety is the number one priority; practice safe behaviors in all activities.
  • Maintain awareness on the sales floor to create a safe and secure environment; keep egress clear and report any unsafe conditions to Store Leadership.
  • Treat Customers and Associates with respect and courtesy; be friendly and professional at all times.
  • Assist Customers as needed — register-trained, assist with merchandise, and answer questions politely and knowledgeably; greet Customers with eye contact, a smile, and a “hello” throughout the Store, and say “thank you” at every register transaction.
  • Provide prompt responses to Customer inquiries and service calls; resolve issues courteously and escalate to Store Leadership when needed.
  • Represent and support the Company brand at all times.
  • Perform cleaning tasks (sweeping, mopping, dusting, wiping counters and mirrors, replenishing restroom supplies) to maintain merchandise, customer and Team areas.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and adhere to the dress code.
  • Perform daily sizing and recovery to keep the store neat, clean, and merchandised to standards.
  • Expedite new merchandise to the sales floor, merchandise items per guidelines, and maintain brand name familiarity within departments to assist Customers.
  • Understand Loss Prevention programs and merchandise protection standards.
  • Safeguard confidential information, cash and credit card information, and merchandise.
  • Follow MOS policies and proper handling of disposals after review by Store Leadership.
  • Follow policies for cash, checks, card transactions, refunds, voids and offline procedures; maintain accuracy with tenders.
  • Demonstrate urgency to maximize productivity and minimize steps in workflow.

Qualifications And Special Skills Required

  • Effective communication with Customers, Associates and Store Leadership in a friendly, respectful manner.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations used in retail environments.

Physical Requirements / ADA

  • Ability to use all Store equipment, including PDTs, registers and PC as required.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and move around the Store for up to 100% of working time.
  • Ability to bend, squat, kneel, climb, carry, reach, and stoop.
  • Ability to occasionally push, pull and lift more than 25 pounds.
  • Ability to use janitorial equipment, rolling racks, ladders and other supplies.
  • Associates who work Stockroom shifts: ability to regularly push, pull and lift more than 20 pounds.
