General Purpose

The Retail Associate is responsible for ensuring our customers have a positive shopping experience. This includes greeting customers, maintaining a clean work area, ensuring proper merchandise presentation, and performing a range of functions in all areas of the store as business needs require. The associate may be asked to perform additional tasks in specific situations to achieve customer service and operational goals.

Essential Functions

  • Understands that safety is the number one priority and practices safe behaviors in everything they do.
  • Maintains awareness on the sales floor to create a safe shopping environment; keeps egress clear and reports unsafe conditions.
  • Treats customers and associates with respect and courtesy; greets customers and remains professional at all times.
  • Assists customers with merchandise and questions; is register-trained; uses proper greeting and thanks customers at checkout.
  • Provides prompt responses to customer service needs; responds to service calls and escalates when needed.
  • Represents and supports the Ross brand at all times.
  • Performs cleaning tasks to maintain store appearance and cleanliness; replenishes restroom supplies; disinfects high-touch areas.
  • Maintains professional appearance and adheres to dress code.
  • Performs daily housekeeping and merchandising tasks to maintain a neat, clean, and organized store.
  • Expedites newly received merchandise to the sales floor and merchandises items per guidelines to support monthly presentation standards.
  • Understands Loss Prevention programs and merchandise protection standards.
  • Demonstrates integrity and safeguards confidential information, cash, and merchandise.
  • Follows MOS policies and proper handling of disposals with leadership review when needed.
  • Follows policies concerning cash, checks, cards, refunds, voids, and offline procedures; maintains accuracy in tender handling.
  • Demonstrates urgency to perform duties efficiently and minimizes steps to maximize productivity.

Qualifications And Special Skills

  • Effective communication with customers, associates, and store leadership in a friendly, respectful manner.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations used in retail environments.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to use store equipment, including PDTs, registers as required.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and move around the store for up to 100% of shift.
  • Ability to bend, squat, kneel, climb, reach, and stoop; ability to lift more than 25 pounds occasionally.
  • Ability to operate janitorial equipment and ladders as needed; stockroom shifts may require lifting more than 20 pounds.
