General Purpose

The Retail Associate is responsible for ensuring our customers have a positive shopping experience. The Associate greets customers in a courteous and friendly manner, treats fellow associates with respect, follows all company standards, maintains a clean work area, and ensures proper merchandise presentation. The role may involve performing a range of tasks in all areas of the store as business needs require, and may include additional tasks in specific situations to help achieve customer service and operational goals.

Essential Functions

  • Understand safety is the number one priority and practice safe behaviors in everything they do.
  • Maintain a high level of floor awareness to create a safe shopping environment, keep egress clear, and report unsafe conditions to Store Leadership.
  • Treat customers and associates with respect and courtesy; greet customers and provide friendly, knowledgeable assistance; acknowledge customers with eye contact, a smile, and a greeting; thank customers during checkout.
  • Assist customers as needed—register-trained, help with merchandise, answer questions politely and knowledgeably.
  • Provide prompt responses to customer inquiries and escalate to Store Leadership when needed.
  • Represent and support the Company brand at all times.
  • Perform cleaning tasks (sweeping, mopping, dusting, sanitizing high-touch areas) and replenish restroom supplies to maintain a clean store environment.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and adhere to the dress code.
  • Assist with merchandise setup, sizing and housekeeping to ensure neat, organized sections and adherence to presentation standards.
  • Expedite newly received merchandise to the sales floor and merchandize according to monthly presentation guidelines.
  • Understand Loss Prevention awareness and merchandise protection standards.
  • Safeguard confidential information, cash, and merchandise; follow MOS policies and proper handling of disposals as needed.
  • Follow policies regarding cash, checks, charge cards, refunds, voids, and offline procedures; maintain accuracy with tenders.
  • Demonstrate a sense of urgency to perform efficiently and maximize productivity.

Qualifications And Special Skills Required

  • Effectively communicate with customers, associates, and store leadership in a friendly, respectful, cooperative manner.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations commonly used in retail environments.

Physical Requirements/Ada

  • Ability to use store equipment, including PDAs, registers, and PCs as required.
  • Ability to spend up to 100% of working time standing, walking, and moving around the store.
  • Ability to regularly bend, squat, kneel, climb, carry, reach, and stoop.
  • Ability to occasionally push, pull, and lift more than 25 pounds.
  • Ability to use janitorial equipment, rolling racks, ladders and other assigned supplies.
  • Certain assignments may require other qualifications and skills.
  • Associates who work Stockroom shifts: ability to regularly push, pull and lift more than 20 pounds.
