General Purpose

The Retail Associate is responsible for ensuring our Customers have a positive shopping experience. The Associate greets Customers in a courteous and friendly manner, treats fellow Associates with respect, follows company best practices, maintains a clean work area, and ensures proper merchandise presentation. The Associate may perform a range of functions in all areas of the Store as business needs require and may be asked to perform additional tasks to help achieve customer service and operational goals.

Essential Functions

  • Safety is the number one priority; maintains a safe and secure shopping environment and reports unsafe conditions to Store Leadership.
  • Maintain a clutter-free sales floor with clear egress to emergency exits.
  • Treat Customers and Associates with respect and courtesy; recognize fellow Associates through company programs.
  • Assist Customers: register-trained, help with merchandise, answer questions politely and Knowledgeably; greet Customers throughout the Store and thank them at checkout.
  • Respond promptly to Customer service calls and handle issues courteously, involving Store Leadership when needed.
  • Represent and support the Company brand at all times.
  • Perform cleaning tasks and replenish restroom supplies to maintain store areas and merchandise presentation.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and adhere to the dress code.
  • Perform daily sizing and recovery to keep the store neat, clean, and organized per standards.
  • Expedite newly received merchandise to the sales floor, merchandise items per guidelines, and assist Customers with brand familiarity within departments.
  • Understand Loss Prevention programs and merchandise protection standards.
  • Safeguard confidential information, cash, and merchandise; demonstrate integrity and honesty as a Ross representative.
  • Follow MOS policies and proper disposal review with Store Leadership when needed.
  • Handle cash, checks, card transactions, and refunds with accuracy and awareness.
  • Demonstrate urgency to maximize productivity and minimize steps in workflow.

Qualifications And Special Skills Required

  • Effective communication with Customers, Associates and Store Leadership in a friendly, respectful manner.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations commonly used in retail environments.

Physical Requirements/Ada

  • Ability to use all store equipment, including PDAs, registers and PCs as required.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and move around the store for up to 100% of the shift.
  • Ability to bend, squat, kneel, climb, carry, reach, and stoop.
  • Ability to push, pull, and lift more than 25 pounds occasionally.
  • Ability to use janitorial equipment, rolling racks, ladders and other supplies.
  • Specific assignments may require additional qualifications and skills.
  • Stockroom associates: ability to regularly push, pull and lift more than 20 pounds.
