General Purpose
The Retail Associate is responsible for ensuring customers have a positive shopping experience. Duties include greeting customers, treating fellow Associates with respect, following company standards, maintaining a clean work area, and ensuring proper merchandise presentation. The Associate may perform a range of tasks across store areas as business needs require and may be asked to perform additional tasks to meet customer service and operating goals.
Responsibilities (Essential Functions)
- Maintain safety as the number one priority and practice safe behaviors at all times.
- Maintain a safe, secure shopping environment; keep aisles clear, report unsafe conditions to Store Leadership.
- Provide friendly, respectful service to customers and fellow Associates; use recognition programs where applicable.
- Assist customers as needed—register-trained, help with merchandise, answer questions politely and knowledgeably; greet customers with eye contact, a smile, and a friendly greeting.
- Respond promptly to Customer Service needs and escalate to Store Leadership when necessary.
- Represent and support the Ross brand at all times.
- Perform cleaning tasks and replenish supplies to maintain store areas and high-touch surfaces.
- Maintain professional appearance and dress code adherence.
- Perform daily sizing and recovery to keep the store neat and merchandised to standards.
- Expedite newly received merchandise to the sales floor and follow monthly presentation guidelines.
- Understand Loss Prevention and merchandise protection standards.
- Safeguard confidential information, cash, credit card information, and merchandise.
- Follow MOS policies for identification, processing, and disposal of MOS merchandise.
- Adhere to policies on cash, checks, credit, refunds, voids, and offline transactions; maintain accuracy with tenders.
- Demonstrate urgency to maximize productivity and minimize steps in workflow.

Qualifications and Skills
- Ability to communicate with Customers, Associates, and Store Leadership in a friendly, respectful manner
- Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations used in retail
Physical Requirements / ADA
- Ability to use store equipment, including PDTs, registers, and PCs as required
- Ability to stand, walk, and move around the store up to 100% of working time
- Ability to bend, squat, kneel, climb, carry, reach, and stoop
- Ability to occasionally push, pull, and lift more than 25 pounds
- Ability to use janitorial equipment, rolling racks, ladders, and other supplies
- Stockroom shifts may require lifting more than 20 pounds
