Travel Job Description American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for an ICU Float Pool position requiring a WA or compact RN license and strong ICU skills.
Responsibilities Work in the Nursing Float Pool with assignments in ICU, PCU, Med-Surg, Rehab, and ED holding units at a Level III Trauma Center Mainly assigned to the ED holding unit, covering mixed diagnoses and fast-paced patient care ICU patients have a 1:2 nurse-to-patient ratio based on acuity; PCU/CCU 1:4; medical-surgical 1:5; rehab team model is 1:8 Common ICU cases include respiratory failure, GI bleeds, DKA, sepsis, and post-arrest patients Specialized ICU procedures include vent management, cardiac rhythm interpretation, invasive line management, and general drains Uses Epic EMR (experience preferred), Alaris IV pumps, and Pyxis for medication dispensing 12-hour day shifts with varying weekend requirements and no on-call May float for partial shifts to any unit within scope of practice Three-day orientation (two days facility, one day unit-specific), with four hours orientation provided when floating to other units Expected to perform patient transports throughout the hospital when assigned Support teams include techs, RTs, hospitalists, and intensivists available 24/7 Positive teamwork and customer service attitude expected, with support from leadership Must adhere to unit protocols for medication safety, bedside rounding, and documentation Hourly rounding, whiteboard updates, and bedside shift report are essential duties No holiday time-off requests approved; self-scheduling and on-call not required Time off up to five days is allowed, longer requests must be added to end of contract First-time travelers are welcome to apply
Requirements Active WA or compact RN license required prior to start Minimum two years of recent ICU experience required Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS Experience with cardiac rhythm interpretation, mechanical ventilation, invasive line management, trach care, and ostomy care required Must complete traveler telemetry competency Epic EMR experience is preferred but not required Strong communication and patient education skills necessary
