Travel Job Description American Traveler is seeking an experienced ICU RN for a float pool position with at least two years of ICU experience and current ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications.
Responsibilities Work in a Nursing Float Pool at a Level III Trauma Center Coverage includes ICU, PCU, Med-Surg, and other units as needed Patient population includes respiratory failure, sepsis, GI bleeds, DKA, post-op, stroke/CVA, and medical/surgical overflow ICU nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:2, PCU is 1:4, and Med-Surg is 1:5 Required to float within scope to various units and may provide partial shift coverage 12-hour day shifts with varying weekends based on unit need Uses Epic EMR, Alaris IV pumps, and Pyxis medication dispensing Must be flexible and resourceful in a fast-paced environment Support available from techs, 24/7 RT, hospitalists, and intensivists Comprehensive orientation includes 2 days hospital, 1 day on unit, and 4 hours for floating units Adherence to safety protocols for medication handling and pain documentation is essential No holiday time-off requests permitted; time off up to 5 days may be approved with additional days considered at assignment end First-time travelers are welcome to apply No phones allowed on unit; regular breaks are required Must regularly update white boards, perform and document hourly rounding, and participate in bedside reporting
Requirements Active WA or Compact RN license Minimum of 2 years recent ICU experience Current ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications Proficiency in cardiac rhythm interpretation, vent management, invasive line management, ostomy, drains, and trach care Telemetry competency required Strong communication and patient education skills
