Job Description
Overview Job Objectives: Manages the operation of a Walgreens store. Improves store sales, profitability and image through proper merchandising, protection of store assets, selection, training and development of team members, and delivering a distinctive and delightful customer and patient experience.
Responsibilities
Customer Experience
Monitors and analyzes customer service provided by team members; offers reminders, training, and action plans for improvement in both retail and pharmacy.
Greets customers and clinic patients, and offers assistance with products and services.
Models and shares customer service best practices to deliver a distinctive and delightful customer and patient experience, including interpersonal habits and Walgreens service traits.
Resolves customer complaints and assists with special needs.
Operations
Supervises operation of the store and pharmacy, including opening/closing, shift changes, task delegation and scheduling.
Oversees cash handling and bookkeeping, including register counts, bank withdrawals, armored car pickups, safe deposits, change orders, ledgers, invoices, cash reports and time records.
Supervises merchandising, including sets, resets, displays and promotional space; manages pricing and signs.
Analyzes inventory trends and oversees inventory management, including ordering, stocking and liquidation to avoid outs and overstock.
Supervises receiving, stocking, pricing, returns and transfers of merchandise.
Ensures execution of District Manager operational feedback.
Implements store organization through hiring, placement and scheduling of work assignments.
Ensures store and grounds are clean and presentable; manages repairs and maintenance; responds to emergencies.
Manages operations with compliance to all applicable laws and regulations, including sale of alcohol, tobacco, fresh food and pharmacy products.
Ensures staff has working knowledge of computer and technology systems; coordinates with IT support for system problems.
Complies with company policies; maintains respectful relationships with coworkers.
Completes special assignments as needed.
Daily Planning and Execution
Assigns daily operational responsibilities and sets expectations for store team members and assistant managers.
Business Performance Management
Analyzes financial and performance data; develops action plans to increase sales and control costs.
Reviews KPIs daily and prepares to discuss with district management.
Reviews and analyzes asset protection data and develops action plans to reduce loss.
Analyzes pharmacy performance indicators and works with the pharmacy manager to improve pharmacy performance; supports during busy periods, including serving as a pharmacy technician when necessary and allowed by law.
Analyzes clinic performance indicators and collaborates with the Clinic Coordinator or Manager to ensure performance and support.
Business Planning
Identifies sales opportunities to grow the store and pharmacy performance.
Manages inventory levels through ordering, stocking, liquidation, and anticipating fast-selling items and seasonal changes.
People and Performance Management
Manages team member performance by assigning responsibilities, setting goals, observing performance, and providing feedback and recognition; manages career progression.
Monitors and ensures timely completion of required training programs, including pharmacy training; provides coaching.
Makes hiring, promotion and termination decisions.
Addresses issues and disciplines team members, engages with Employee Relations and HR as appropriate.
Develops performance plans and tracks deadlines.
Monitors and approves team member compensation.
Promotes teamwork and motivates team members by setting expectations and sharing vision.
Ensures compliance with corporate policies and applicable employment laws; treats all team members fairly and maintains open communication channels.
Training and Personal Development
Participates in company and on-the-job training to improve skills and productivity; completes Walgreens School of Operations within six months in Store Manager position.
Follows performance improvement plans offered by District Management.
Obtains pharmacy technician registration/licensure as required by state law and pursues relevant certification when required.
Seeks self-development by monitoring performance and learning about retail and management and the pharmacy field.
Communications
Serves as liaison between district, corporate and the store to provide communication, respond to requests, provide feedback and implement initiatives.
Conducts community outreach and participates in planning community events with the District Manager.
Qualifications
External Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree and 3 years of retail management experience or high school diploma/GED and 5 years of retail management experience.
Licensed pharmacy technician as required by state or pharmacy assistant in WA state or licensed Rph as soon as possible per state requirements, no later than 12 months from Store Manager start date.
Willingness to work a flexible schedule including extended days, evenings, and weekends.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree.
PTCB or ExCPT Certification.
Three years of retail management experience, including supervising others and managing work assignments.
Licensed pharmacy technician as required by state or pharmacy assistant in WA state or licensed Rph.
