Tax Technician - Bilingual role at California Franchise Tax Board. Anticipated start date: April 1, 2026. Positions are located in Sacramento, CA with hybrid telework. This role requires bilingual (Spanish) proficiency; bilingual candidates must indicate fluency on the standard state application and resume. Responsibilities

In your role, you will collect delinquent tax and/or non-tax debt in a contact center environment. You will obtain and analyze relevant facts, make fair and impartial determinations, analyze and interpret written and numerical data, recognize questions or situations outside of your area of responsibility or knowledge, and interpret and apply/governmental, tax or nontax rules, regulations, and departmental procedures and policies. Respond to taxpayer inquiries by phone and computer regarding the collection and resolution of Personal Income Tax (PIT), Business Entity (BE), and Non-Tax Debt (NTD) accounts resulting from collection notices and actions. Navigate multiple computer software applications to review accounting issues/problems. Assist dissatisfied taxpayers and handle challenging situations professionally. Work well under pressure, analyze documents thoroughly, explain applicable tax laws to taxpayers, and apply appropriate collection remedies to accounts. Demonstrate initiative, prudence, analytical ability, strong verbal and written communication skills, and independent decision-making. Other program and assignment details include consideration of applicant preferences where possible, with placement based on operational and business needs of the ARM Division. Qualifications and desirable qualifications

Desirable qualifications (in addition to demonstrated ability): Knowledge and experience in Personal Income Tax (PIT) and/or Business Entity (BE) tax laws and procedures. Knowledge and proficiency in Microsoft Office (Teams, Outlook, Word, Excel). Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills; ability to work face to face with the public and maintain positive relationships. Ability to handle changing priorities and work under pressure. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Willingness to adjust work schedule to meet operational needs. Strong organizational and multi-tasking skills; strong problem-solving and negotiating abilities. Ability to work independently and in a team. Knowledge of TI, BETS, ETS, TPF, and CM systems. Experience in collecting past due accounts. Spanish bilingual proficiency. Job Details
