We are pleased to share that the CDOC has collaborated with Fading West Development LLC (FWD) to assist our employees with housing in the Buena Vista Area. They are located in the Farm neighborhood near shopping, restaurants, a fitness center, and work.
CDOC cannot guarantee housing and does not operate the housing.
Description Of Job This Correctional Support Trades Supervisor I (CSTS I) is a Labor/Grounds Maintenance Supervisor at the Buena Vista Correctional Complex (BVCC), a Colorado Department of Corrections (CDOC) prison facility, located in Buena Vista, CO. Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to: ensuring the safety and security of the general public, staff and inmates; training and overseeing an inmate work crew in grounds maintenance operations, and ensuring the safe, efficient, and compliant completion of assigned tasks. This position promotes the CDOC Mission and Vision with integrity and commitment.
Position ensures the safe, efficient, compliant, and cost effective completion of grounds maintenance for facility complex.
Safety and Security Position maintains safety and security of facility and work sites through clear verbal communication, training staff, and inmates in proper use of controlled items, keys, tools, equipment, and chemicals. Enforces security procedures by conducting work site searches, strip searches, inmate shakedowns, and monitors behavior. Initiates verbal reprimands and, if necessary, physically controls inmates through proper restraint or use of force. Monitors, supervises, escorts inmates per policy, conducts work site searches, responds to emergencies such as fights, fires and escapes, and promotes a safe environment. May require additional hours or shifts to maintain security or viability.
Supervision Provides supervision of assigned inmate workers; promotes performance by setting standards. Trains inmates in inspection, repair, maintenance of grounds, use of tools, safety practices, and PPE. Exemplifies a professional workforce that embodies honesty, integrity, and ethical behavior. Participates in inmate hiring, tracks hours, creates schedule, assigns tasks, inspects work, performs evaluations, resolves grievances, reduces idleness, and prepares inmates for community reentry. May supervise other inmate crews when necessary.
Operations Oversees inspection, repair, and maintenance of grounds including lawn-care, landscaping, irrigation, concrete work, asphalt patching, and snow removal. May supervise an inmate work crew on projects for other agencies/organizations outside of BVCC and transport crews to remote sites. Requires walking, hiking, navigation skills, vehicle operations off road, and trailer towing.
This Position Is Subject To The Following Facility call back, working additional hours or shifts to maintain security and operations, working outside during inclement weather, working in close proximity to industrial equipment and in high, tight, and confined spaces.

Minimum Qualifications Four (4) years of employment experience in residential or commercial grounds maintenance. Grounds Maintenance includes preventive, predictive, corrective maintenance of automated irrigation, comprehensive lawn care, landscaping, concrete work, asphalt patching, fence building, snow removal.
OR Applicant may meet the four (4) year requirement with a combination of work experience:
Minimum of two (2) years of employment experience described above may be combined with correctional experience.
Correctional experience must be security related duties: detaining, controlling movement, escorting inmates, conducting counts and searches, monitoring inmate movements.
Substitutions Successful completion of a formalized apprenticeship program or degree through an accredited vocational or trade school that demonstrates equivalent competencies may substitute for experience on a year-for-year basis. Transcripts must be attached.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in carpentry, plumbing, electrical, drywall, and/or painting.
Experience as a heavy equipment operator.
