CDOC Labor Grounds Maintenance Supervisor CSTS I – Buena Vista
Position: Correctional Support Trades Supervisor I (CSTS I) – Labor/Grounds Maintenance Supervisor at Buena Vista Correctional Complex (BVCC), Colorado Department of Corrections (CDOC), Buena Vista, CO.
Job Overview This position ensures the safe, efficient, and compliant completion of grounds maintenance for the facility complex, provides safety and security oversight, and trains and supervises an inmate work crew.
Responsibilities Safety and Security:
Maintain safety and security of facility and work sites, conduct search procedures, enforce security policies, respond to emergencies, and may work additional hours or shifts.
Supervision:
Provide supervision of assigned inmate workers, set standards, train and instruct inmates, handle hiring, scheduling, evaluations, grievance resolution, and may supervise other crews when required.
Operations:
Oversee inspection, repair, and maintenance of grounds, including lawn‑care, landscaping, irrigation, concrete, asphalt, snow removal, and may supervise external projects.
Minimum Qualifications
Four (4) years of employment experience in residential or commercial grounds maintenance.
Grounds maintenance experience includes preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance of automated irrigation systems and comprehensive lawn care/landscaping, concrete work, asphalt patching, fence building, and snow removal.
Alternatively, two (2) years of grounds maintenance combined with correctional experience in security‑related duties such as detaining, controlling inmate movement, and conducting counts.
Successful completion of formal apprenticeship or degree offering competencies equivalent to the required experience may substitute on a year‑for‑year basis.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience designing, installing, and repairing automated irrigation systems.
Experience in carpentry, plumbing, electrical, drywall, or painting.
Experience as a heavy‑equipment operator.
Location Buena Vista Correctional Complex (BVCC), Buena Vista, CO.
Conditions of Employment
Must be 21 years of age.
Possess a valid driver’s license.
Have a high school diploma or GED.
No felony convictions.
Legally eligible to work in the United States.
Complete Defensive Tactics training.
Must be able to perform required physical tasks.
Must have a valid driver’s license within 30 days of employment.
Must undergo background investigation; must pass drug screening.
