This National Guard position is for a SURFACE MAINTENANCE MECHANIC, Position Description Number D1195000 and is part of the NC G4, National Guard (G4 – SMM – CSMS / MD 6021-105). THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION. Summary THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION. Location: Raleigh, NC. Salary: $31.27 to $36.49 per hour. Pay scale & grade: WG 11. Vacation/Work schedule: Full-time, Excepted service with promotion potential to 11. Location: 1 vacancy in Raleigh, NC. Appointment type: Multiple – INDEFINITE. Selectee may be terminated with 30 days notice. TEMP PROMOTION (TP) may be terminated without notice. INDEFINITE or TP may be converted to permanent promotion, upon permanent funding of position. Travel: Occasional travel for the position. Relocation: Not reimbursed.

Duties

As a SURFACE MAINTENANCE MECHANIC, WG-5801-11, you will perform maintenance, troubleshooting, and major repair on heavy-duty mobile equipment, combat, tactical, automotive vehicles. This includes: Troubleshoot, repair/overhaul mechanically complex major systems; remove/disassemble engines and major assemblies; make repairs or modifications in accordance with repair specifications; improvise repair techniques when standard procedures are not available. Reassemble engines, adjust, test, reinstall vehicles/equipment; perform electrical repairs on complex state-of-the-art electrical/electronic systems. Provide technical guidance/specialized team leadership; assist mechanics in performing major repair work; provide Field/limited Sustainment maintenance at unit locations; conduct readiness and ensure equipment is properly serviced. Inspect repair work and instruct operators/crew in maintenance; maintain production reports/records; plan, organize, and perform analyses to maximize production; perform other duties as assigned. This is an excepted service position requiring membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard prior to placement. Selectee must wear the military uniform. Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes agreement with these requirements. Applicants must be eligible for immediate National Guard membership in the listed military grade. Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service. Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation. Probationary period may be required 1-2 years; appointment ends unless certified as advancing agency interests. Direct deposit is mandatory. This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment; an individual convicted of a qualifying domestic violence crime may not perform duties. Qualifications

Military Grades: Enlisted (E4 – E9) or Warrant Officer (WO1). Minimum Requirements: Experience or training showing knowledge of equipment to perform routine jobs and basic preventive maintenance with ability to use common tools. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Must have 18 months of experience diagnosing, repairing, overhauling, and modifying more complex vehicles and systems; experience with diagnostic equipment; ability to apply independent judgment to solve complex maintenance problems; experience in testing, inspecting, and evaluating work on vehicles, equipment, and systems.
