Your Impact

Direct a multi‑disciplinary team of engineers and planners in the preparation of design alternative studies, technical reports, intersection/interchange design studies, preliminary plans, among other preliminary design deliverables for transportation engineering and planning projects

Perform and guide conceptual geometric design of roadway corridor alternatives with ranging complexity, within urban, suburban and rural settings

Coordinate and mentor project staff, manage sub‑consultants ensuring the accuracy and quality of work

Manage and maintain project documentation, including meeting project schedules, budgets, and scope

Assist with the development of statements of interest, proposals, and project scope and budget documents

Desire to both sell and deliver work for a variety of clients, in varying roles on a project, including project manager

Organize and chair client and project stakeholder meetings

Candidate would report to Lochner’s Chicago office

Occasional travel to project sites or for project meetings required

Who You Are

BSCE is required.

IL PE is required.

8 + years’ experience delivering or leading preliminary design phase projects

Experience with preliminary geometric design of roadways for IDOT (Phase I) and the Illinois Tollway (Master Plan/Concept Phase); Preliminary Design experience with CCDOTH, CDOT, among other Illinois county and municipal client agencies beneficial as well

Experience coordinating and presenting at client or stakeholder agency meetings

Proficiency in MicroStation and OpenRoads Designer (preferred)

Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills

Basic understanding of multi‑disciplinary roadway design delivery including traffic operations analysis, structural design, traffic staging during construction, drainage design, cost estimation, among others relative to preliminary design delivery

Work Environment The work environment characteristics described are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Physical Requirements Intermittent sitting, walking, standing, bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, twisting, stoop, crawl, and lifting. The employee must frequently lift and/or move light equipment up to 20 pounds. Must be alert to equipment in the field, occasional need to work near hazardous equipment and machinery, occasional need to walk on uneven ground, exposure to dust, gas or fumes, exposure to noise, extremes in temperature or humidity, and potential work at heights.
