Better Comfort Systems, Inc. We are a growing mechanical/HVAC contracting company seeking a reliable, detail-oriented Part‑Time Bookkeeper to manage day‑to‑day accounting functions. This role supports project‑based accounting, job costing, payroll coordination, and monthly financial reporting in a construction environment. The ideal candidate has prior experience with construction or trade contractors and is comfortable working independently while coordinating with management and our CPA. Key Responsibilities

General Bookkeeping:

Record daily financial transactions in accounting software; Maintain accurate general ledger entries; Perform monthly bank and credit card reconciliations; Maintain organized digital and paper financial records Accounts Payable:

Process vendor invoices and verify proper job and cost coding; Track subcontractor and supplier payments; Prepare and release payments (check, ACH, wire); Maintain vendor files, W‑9s, and insurance certificates Accounts Receivable:

Generate customer invoices, including progress and final billings; Post customer payments and manage AR aging; Assist with lien waiver tracking and retention balances; Follow up on past‑due accounts as needed Job Costing & Project Support:

Code labor, materials, and expenses to specific jobs; Assist with job cost tracking and profitability reports; Support project managers with financial documentation Payroll & Compliance Support:

Assist with payroll preparation (hours, job coding, deductions); Coordinate with payroll service and CPA; Track payroll reports and support certified payroll if required Reporting & CPA Coordination:

Prepare monthly financial reports (P&L, Balance Sheet, Job Cost Reports); Assist with month‑end and year‑end close; Provide documentation to CPA for tax filings and audits Required Qualifications

Minimum 2 years bookkeeping experience Experience in construction, mechanical, HVAC, or trade contracting Strong understanding of job costing and progress billing Proficiency with accounting software (QuickBooks preferred) High attention to detail and accuracy Ability to work independently and meet deadlines Preferred Qualifications

Experience with certified payroll Retention tracking Multi‑job/project accounting Familiarity with union and non‑union payroll environments Prior experience working with a CPA firm Work Schedule & Environment

Part‑time, flexible schedule (20–25 hours/week) In‑office or hybrid preferred Additional hours may be required during month‑end or year‑end close Why Join Us?
