Responsibilities Registered Nurses in the Surgical Oncology unit provide care for surgical oncology and hospice patients, including post‑surgical and end‑of‑life conditions. Patients may be moderately stable, have fluctuating acuity, and require comprehensive care. Primary duties include:

Assessing, documenting, planning, implementing, teaching, developing, and evaluating a comprehensive nursing plan of care.

Delivering direct patient care and ensuring patient satisfaction.

Training and delegating duties for Nursing Care Technicians (Nursing Assistants).

Adhering to university policies, procedures, and federal, state, and local regulations.

Collaborating with nursing staff and physicians to enhance communication and improve patient outcomes.

Required Qualifications

Registered Nurse with an active Kentucky RN license (or temporary work permit, provisional license, or compact RN license) and at least an ADN.

American Heart Association Basic Life Support certification, valid at least six months after employment date.

Physical ability to lift, carry, push, and pull 50–100 pounds daily and 25–50 pounds frequently; ability to stand, walk, and sit for extended periods.

Commitment to work three 12‑hour shifts per week, including weekends and holidays.

Strong communication, critical thinking, organizational, prioritization, and delegation skills.

Preferred Qualifications

BSN and at least one year of RN experience.

Knowledge of Maslow’s Basic Human Needs, Gordon’s Functional Health Patterns, and Swanson’s Caring model.

Proficiency with basic computer navigation and internet skills.

Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
