Salary:
$4,102.00 - $4,865.00 per month. New to State candidates will be hired into the minimum salary of the classification or the minimum of the alternate range when applicable.

Job Summary The Caltrans Highway Complete Streets Maintenance Worker operates and services highway maintenance equipment, light trucks, automobiles, and construction or landscape equipment. The role includes maintenance and construction duties on sidewalks, crosswalks, bikeways, and all related highway facilities. The worker may perform training for other employees and travel to remote locations, staying overnight as needed.
Responsibilities
Operate specified vehicles with a Class C driver’s license.
Perform labor‑intensive maintenance and construction tasks for Complete Streets facilities.
Maintain knowledge of current safety training, policies, and procedures.
Provide operational duties for other classifications as directed.
Travel to job sites, including overnight stays, to meet department needs.
Wear all required personal protective equipment and follow all safety protocols.
Working Conditions
Position located at District 11/Maintenance Division/West Region of San Diego County.
Exposed to loud noise, dust, chemicals, extreme weather, heights, confined spaces, and uneven terrain.
Requires rotating or irregular shifts, including weekends, nights, holidays, overtime, and after‑hour emergency response.
Minimum Requirements
Valid, unrestricted Class C driver’s license.
Capacity to operate State owned or leased vehicles.
Drug screening passed before being hired.
Meeting all minimum qualifications listed in the Classification Specification, verified prior to interview.
Eligible for the Caltrans Highway Maintenance Worker examination; if not currently eligible, must be on the state examination list.
