The NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 14,000 employees. It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection and preparation as well as the care, custody and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. Description of Work
The primary purpose of this position is to support basic operational functions for all Correction Enterprises plants statewide. These facilities may contain close, medium and/or minimum custody offenders. The position is responsible for maintaining adequate technician coverage to maximize plant operations and minimize costly downtime that inhibits production. It is under the direction of the Correction Enterprises Maintenance/Construction Supervisor II to resolve equipment or facility problems that delay production and any manufacturing operations at the plant. The response and resolution of any problems must be done in a timely and cost‑effective manner. This position may supervise staff or offenders while performing duties. It is essential that the position be well‑versed in the operation of all power and hand tools and rolling equipment (forklifts, scissor lifts) and comfortable with the operation and training of such. The working hours for this position are Monday‑Thursday 6:00 am – 4:30 pm.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities / Management Preferences
Salary Range: $43,738 – $76,542

Documented forklift operation experience.
Considerable knowledge of the methods, practices, and materials used in general maintenance and the repair of manufacturing equipment and machinery.
Documented experience reading and interpreting building codes, drawings, and schematics.
Experience using welding equipment.

Minimum Education and Experience
High school or GED and two (2) years of experience in the performance of the full range of journey‑level tasks associated with two (2) or more highly complex mechanical or building trades; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
