Training Content Developer
is responsible for developing or curating training content for Johnstone University utilizing sound Instructional Design, consulting with Johnstone Distributors on developing their own custom training and assisting them in leveraging the training tools and resources available, and may also act as instructor/facilitator for live (in-person and online) training events.
Position Responsibilities
Instructional Design & Curriculum Planning:
Conducts needs assessments and gathers information from key stakeholders Gathers information from store personnel and contractors via meetings, surveys, tests, and/or interviews to understand business objectives and audience Identifies knowledge and skills required to meet objectives and defines gap(s) between current and required knowledge and skill levels Presents summary information and potential project plan to Learning Development and Operations Manager Collaborate with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) in preparation for instructional design to create courses and/or job role training plans from existing content Creates and proposes project plans (incl. resources needed, proposed budget, timeline) for development of training content to meet strategic initiatives and requests from Distributors Evaluates previous custom content and identifies necessary revisions or updates Presents proposed project plans to Learning Development and Operations Manager for approval Builds and maintains curriculum plans (Training Tracks)
Content Development
Manages the Design and Development process for custom training content and ensures schedule, quality, and budget objectives are met Uses development software and tools to create and edit course content, graphics, photos, and other supporting materials Writes or reviews/edits training KSA’s and narration/scripts Creates, reviews/edits storyboards, online modules, and supporting documentation Updates Johnstone University custom content as needed Creates custom online content (video, SCORM, job aids, etc.) as needed Work with SMEs Creates and Monthly Quiz and Contractor Challenge and utilizes advanced content development software to create new quizzes, games, and interactions to engage Johnstone Employees and contractors and draw them to the universities Works with Training Coordinator(s) to create and/or compile course descriptions and meta-data; ensure proper loading onto JU, and fully tests course functionality before launch Performs other tasks as assigned by the supervisor
Position Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree (B.A./B.S.) from a four-year college or university; at least 5 years of related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience An APTD or CPTD certification preferred, but not required for this role Understand and help implement and maintain business intelligence and data analysis software Must have familiarity with SaaS LMS Administration and deep knowledge of API/webhooks Web and app platform development knowledge including HTML, CSS, Firebase, GooglePlay and AppleStore developer’s console Ability to use current Microsoft Office program suite Ability to use software programs for creating documents and collateral, including Adobe Acrobat and graphic software Experience with learning management systems (Docebo preferred) and help desk software (Jira) Keep up with developments in area of expertise by reading current journals, books, or magazine articles Attend meetings or seminars to obtain information for use in training programs or to inform management of training program status Problem-solving skills: ability in listening to, interpreting, and meeting the needs of others; diagnosing and rectifying problems Project Management Skills: Demonstrated ability to establish objectives, timelines and deadlines, action planning to meet deadlines; evaluating current and future positions Research and gather data on event service providers Job requires being open to change (positive or negative) and to considerable adaptability/flexibility in the workplace Ability to maintain confidentiality of information and use independent judgment in completing work Ability to develop and use systems for organizing and keeping track of information and follow standardized procedures
