Base pay range: $5,266.00 – $6,591.00 A
Job Description and Duties Under general supervision of the Accounting Administrator I (Supervisor) over the Cashiering and Travel Unit, the Accounting Officer (Specialist) performs professional accounting duties of average difficulty in the establishment and maintenance of accounts and financial records for the Department Headquarters (HQ) and the State Operated Facilities (SOFs) activities. The incumbent is responsible for analyzing, auditing, and processing all travel and reimbursement claim transactions utilizing CalATERS and FI$Cal. Tasks are performed in accordance with AFSS guidelines, State Administrative Manual (SAM), Uniform Codes Manual, GAAP, State Controller’s Office policies, and applicable state and federal laws.
Effective July 1, 2025, state employees are subject to a salary reduction of three percent in exchange for five hours per month of Personal Leave.

Working Conditions This position is a hybrid, in‑office/telework role that may be subject to change. Incumbents may be required to report to the office or any designated location at any time. Telework agreements can be modified or cancelled at any time. Incumbents must live and work in California. All commute expenses to the reporting location are the responsibility of the selected candidate. The role requires lawful authorization to work in the United States and does not sponsor employment visas.
The position requires use of a computer up to 70% of the time on the FI$Cal Accounting System and various software applications (Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook). Incumbents must also use various office machines such as computers, copiers, and scanners. During peak times (including year‑end processing) requests for leave will be limited and approved on a case‑by‑case basis. Overtime may be required to meet deadlines.
